My stand arrived all dented up, was not very sturdy. Had to return product of which they charged me over 150.00 for supposed dents and scratches (i have the product 3 days and used it 0 times).

I'm a Master Trainer and do not recommend this product.

Thank you Ironmaster - you must be a gift from God. Not only did you give me super awesome biceps, but I can also gaze at my reflection on your perfectly contoured sides. I am so addicted to your Quick-Lock system that I vomit at the site of another dumbell. May God have mercy on your soul if you don't buy Ironmaster right now.

The Quicklock system is very clever, on paper. You add plates, or take them off, and then lock in place by rotating the pins until they stick. For someone who would otherwise need a lot of dumbbells, this is really convenient.

Unfortunately, the poor quality of the plates make it extremely time consuming to use. I like to do circuit training and to move fast between exercises with no rest. Let me tell you, if you try to use this system in a hurry you may get injured. I did. This is because the plates don't really match, and as they switch position when you lift, the lock may come undone, unless you are super super careful. Not a very safe proposition. I bought this system because of the raving review. I guess I am the unlucky one who got poorly made plate, or maybe other reviewers don't mind spending 3 minutes switching plates every-single-time. I do. I still use this system, but I ended up buying a gym membership because I find it less time consuming and frustrating than using this system. If you don't mind a forced 'rest' between exercises, this is for you. Too bad: it's a great idea, and I would have given it 5 stars if it wasn't for the poor quality of the plates.

Considering the hours I have to go to the gym are mainly when they are closed, or would take too much time away from my home life, I decided to buy some dumbbells. At first I figured I would go with hex dumbbells. I mean you can't beat the old solid pieces of metal, right?

The problems I was running into were the cheapest set I could find was $550, and they only went from 5-50 lbs. I need around 65 lbs for my heaviest exercises. So I would have had to spend an extra $360 to bring my set up to that point. Plus it seems like it would take up a little bit of room...and I would still have to buy a stand and a weight bench.

So I started looking at the Bowflex adjustables and went to Sport's Authority to try them out. As anyone who has seen these can tell you, they were way too long at the lower weights and didn't feel solid to me at all.

While looking at reviews of Powerblocks on YouTube, I saw what looked like spam mentioning "ironmasters are teh best, check them out!". I figured what the heck, and after a quick Google search I found their site.

Boy did I make the right decision. Obviously a product with this many positive reviews is doing something right. These weights are solid, they scale up as you add more weight, they don't have more than a two-foot square footprint, they seem to be pretty durable, they go up to 70 lbs, they come with a stand, and frankly they are hella-attractive.

The only thing you are giving up with these is the ability to change weights really quickly. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't take that long, and if I was motivated I could do it in a few seconds. But if you are doing something like a set of 12, 10, 8, 6, 4...and then immediately grabbing a heavier weight after the 4 to work the same muscle with a different exercise ('Body for Life' style)...you would have to come up with an alternate solution.

I also want to mention I bought the bench in some type of combo deal. I wasn't able to tell from the web how sturdy this bench was going to be, but all the ones I tried out at the stores seemed to be pretty flimsy. I hate to sound like a kiss a$$, but this is a club-quality bench. I am close to 230 lbs right now (not by any means all muscle) and 6'4". It completely supports me, is easy to adjust, and is well designed. Keep in mind if you want to do decline work you will need the situp attachment. Not because you "need" it, but because of the way the bench works. It only goes into incline position, so what you have to do is put the situp attachment on the top so you have something to put your feet onto. Bam, instant decline.

My honest opinion is whoever invented these things has revolutionized the dumbbell. I like them so much, half of me wishes I could be some kind of east-coast distributor. I can't imagine a better adjustable dumbbell.

I thought getting a variety of dumbbells was a no-brainer, but after experiencing the Ironmasters I am much happier I made the choice to go with these.

I spent a month researching adjustable dumbbells and finally decided on Ironmaster. I'm really glad I didn't buy Bowflex SelectTech (it seems like every bodybuilding forum hates these).

Why I went with Ironmaster dumbbells:

1). AUTHENTICITY -- These dumbbells are just like the real thing. They don't rattle; there's no odd parts; you can drop them; they are safe and secure.

2). LONGEVITY -- There's a reason these dumbbells have a lifetime warranty. No pins, no plastic, and no weak parts. Your children's children could be using these. If you ever decide to you want to get rid of them, they have a huge resell value. Throw up an ad on Craigslist and recoup ~70% of your purchase price.

3). UPGRADABLE -- An add-on kit increases the weight to 120lbs. There's also a "custom" 165lb kit. Ironmaster has several other add-ons: kettlebell kit, straightbar kit, and EZ curl kit, all which use the same weighted plates. This makes these dumbbells a great investment.

Ironmaster is located in Woodinville, WA, so the closer you live to the Pacific Northwest, the faster you'll receive these dumbbells. I live in Seattle and ordered them Friday morning and received them Saturday afternoon!
